Shake This World
Sheet Music Packet for Community Choir by Stephen Bigger
Shake This World is one of Stephen’s most requested and celebrated songs. Stephen received an ASCAP Award in 2003 for the song. Shake This World has been performed by Stephen Bigger and the Atlanta Community Choir and Orchestra in 1996. It is also included in a compilation CD of songs dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. called Dream On which was released in 2007.
In 2009, Shake This World became the inspiration for video project featuring members of the Aptos High School Choir and Theatre Department, and Stacy Aronovici (Director). The song is a perfect vehicle for expressing the discouragement of many music and choir students at the lack of financial support for the arts. The opening scene focuses on the music room of a local high school where instruments were strewn, broken, incomplete, and unused. The students wanted the video to bring awareness to the importance of doing something radical to inspire change.

LYRICS
Face the conflict, catch the flame
Peace won’t come if we stay the same.
Don’t take nothin’, leave no stone unturned
On the road back to our love;
With every fibre, every nerve.
We gotta shake this world with a song of peace,
Shake this earth with the power of love.
Cast asunder– these chains of war
We need a little mercy and relief.
Can’t we start over with a brand new heart?
We gotta get down on our knees;
Every moment, every day.
Oh sun, shine on these too tired hearts… Prevail!
Truer than truth, Lighter than light,
Yeah, we gotta Shake This World…
We gotta shake this world with a song of peace,
Shake this earth with the power of love.
Peace, sweet peace…
