Last night, July 31st Beth and I slept in what is called here at Nkwichi The Bed of Stars. We had a short walk to a secluded beach where everything was set up and waiting for us- fire, our choice of wines, excellent dinner, and a bed with the most amazing show imaginable.
About 1:30am we saw the longest, slowest shooting star I have ever seen. Beth’s knowledge of star gazing is impressive, and her excitement at seeing a whole set of constellations was infectious. To lay there and imagine the vastness of the galaxies is both inspiring and humbling. What an amazing creation we enjoy!
Our guide Charles camped down the trail within walkie-talkie range, although our unit ran out of batteries about 2am. We were also given a whistle in case some leopard or crocodile decided we looked tasty. But fortunately (and obviously) apart from the occasional rustle in the brush, the night was a quiet, yet breathtaking show of stars.
