Lights on the Horizon
Lights on the Horizon was the first recording project for many of the performers featured on this record. The process took about 7 months from start to finish. Many of the overdubs were recorded in the music center at Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church in Moraga, California. While the rhythm section is comprised of talented, professional musicians, many of the participants received their first opportunity to perform in front of a microphone. Even though there were non-professional performers featured on this record, the result is highly polished and timeless.
This is not your typical ‚ÄúChristian Music‚Äù production. Many of the songs ask more questions than they answer, but the hope is still embedded in every word. Stephen’s writings are inspired by artists like Peter Gabriel, Bruce Cockburn, Yes, Genesis, and other progressive rock writers. There is no pretense of style, rather each song is approached in a manner true to its own unique personality.
Songs like the title cut Lights on the Horizon, Embrace the Rain, Still Waters, Children of God and I Will Wait carry a deep message without being preachy or overtly evangelical in intent. Studying the lyrics to these particular songs exposes the writer’s own struggle with the challenges of life. Take a few moments to consider the words of each song and you will find fresh perspective on life, faith, and love.
